Due to the diligence of a schoolboy, East Siang Police arrested a 54-year-old man in connection with an alleged child sexual abuse case under the POCSO Act, 2012. The case began after the victim's cousin, who is also a school student, sought help through Child Helpline 1098.

The cousin had learned about Child Helpline 1098 during a Project Muskaan awareness programme conducted at his school. After receiving information from Childline through the WCD Department, a Women Police Station team apprehended the accused within an hour. Following an FIR filed by the victim's parents, police registered a case under Sections 4 and 6 of the POCSO Act, 2012. The accused has been arrested and placed in judicial custody.

As the state has seen a number of cases of assault on children, the agencies must step in to ensure that schools, homes, and neighbourhoods are safe for children. All welfare agencies, as well as community organisations and schools, must get together to spread awareness on how to report such cases. They must reach the remotest schools that have no access to the law and ensure that preventive tools are accessible to them.
