NAMSAI, 10 Oct: In a shocking incident which came to light through a press release issued by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), the officer-in-charge (OC) of Chongkham police station (PS), SI Vijay Kumar, was arrested on Friday in a bribery case.
The ACB had registered the case on 8 October, based on allegations by a complainant that the accused demanded Rs 1.5 lakhs in a motor vehicle accident case for providing copies of the FIR, Form 54 (police report) and postmortem examination (PME) report - necessary documents for filing Motor Accidents Claims Tribunal (MACT) claims.
Acting on the complaint, the ACB trapped and caught the accused red- handed while receiving Rs 65,000, allegedly as advance payment, in Mahadevpur in Namsai district. The ACB has taken the accused under its custody and further investigation is underway.
The accused was reportedly the officiating OC at the time of his arrest, as the regular OC was on official leave.
He had officiated as the OC for about five days when the arrest happened. He has been in service for over 30 years and had just a couple of years left before superannuation.
