ANINI, 18 Jul: An adolescent child labourer was rescued from the construction site of the VVP PMGSY road project located along NH 313 at Etalin in Dibang Valley district.
The rescued victim is a 15-year-old male, hailing from Dajo village, Kumarshat, Unakoti district in Tripura. The child was found engaged as a labourer at the construction site, which is prohibited under the provisions of the Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986, as amended.
During the rescue operation, it was found that the child had been employed by Anil Basumatary, who was working under a sub-contractor engaged in the execution of the road construction project.
The child labourer was produced before the Child Welfare Committee of Dibang Valley district for appropriate care, protection, and rehabilitation in accordance with the provisions of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.
Necessary legal action has been initiated against the employer in accordance with the applicable laws.
Reiterating its commitment to eliminating child labour, the district administration has appealed to all contractors, employers, and members of the public to strictly comply with child protection laws.
Citizens have been urged to immediately report any instance of child labour or exploitation to the authorities concerned, so that timely intervention can be made to safeguard the rights and well-being of children. (DIPRO)
