SEPPA, 22 Aug: The sessions court judge here in East Kameng district has sentenced accused Nikam Sangbia to rigorous imprisonment for life, along with other concurrent terms, in the Seppa hospital dao assault case.

Sangbia had gone on a dao assault spree at the district hospital here on 14 November, 2024, killing four people: his wife Tade Sangbia, his two-year-old daughter Mekhya Sangbia, chowkidar Fei Beyong, and attendant Paka Welly Tallang.

Sessions Court Judge Tage Hailey pronounced the judgment of rigorous imprisonment for life with a fine of Rs 3,000 under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Sangbia will have to undergo an additional six months of imprisonment if he is in default of payment of the fine.

The life imprisonment was handed to the accused under Section 109(1) of the BNS, 2023, along with 10 years' imprisonment with a fine of Rs 2,000 under Section 118(2) of the BNS, 2023. He will have to undergo an additional three months of imprisonment if he is in default of payment of the fine.

Sangbia has also been handed two years' imprisonment with a fine of Rs 1,500 under Section 132 of the BNS, 2023, with an additional one month of imprisonment in default of payment of the fine.

Sangbia has been remanded to judicial custody in Seppa to serve the sentence.
