NAHARLAGUN, 24 Jun: A team of Naharlagun police arrested a drug peddler and recovered suspected heroin during a search operation conducted under the supervision of an Executive Magistrate in D-Sector here on Tuesday.

The arrested person was identified as Sonny Taba (21), a resident of D-Sector, Naharlagun.

The operation was led by SI K. Tada and SI V. Linggi, along with constables Sanu Raj T. and K. Raja, and L/HC J. Yadap, Naharlagun SP Nyelam Nega informed in a release.

The search operation led to the recovery of 19 vials containing suspected heroin, weighing 20.08 grams (including vial weight).

Based on information obtained during the investigation, the police later searched the accused’s residence and recovered an additional seven vials of suspected heroin weighing 8.41 grams (including vial weight), along with Rs. 12,900 in cash, believed to be proceeds from drug peddling.

Case No. 70/2026 was registered under Sections 21(b), 27, and 29 of the NDPS Act at Naharlagun police station following the seizure.

SP Nega said the fight against narcotics remains a top priority and that strict action will continue against drug traffickers and peddlers, reaffirming the police’s commitment to building a drug-free society.
