Between January and May, over 32,800 people in Arunachal Pradesh were affected by a series of weather-related disasters, according to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC). The disasters included storms, landslides, floods, forest fires, heavy rainfall events, and earthquakes across the state. At least seven people died and eight others were injured during the period under review. Of the fatalities, four were caused by landslides, two by storms, and one by lightning strike.

Significant damage was also reported in the agriculture and horticulture sectors, along with widespread infrastructure losses. Frequent incidents of landslides, floods, storms, forest fires, and earthquakes have caused loss of lives, damaged infrastructure, and disrupted livelihoods across 26 districts.

The scale and recurrence of these events underline the need for early warning systems, better disaster preparedness, and improved disaster resilience at all levels. While response is often post-disaster, strengthened early warning systems could enable timely intervention and help prevent loss of life and large-scale destruction.
