TAKSING, 4 Jun: The Spearhead Division of the Indian Army’s Spear Corps conducted a ‘Vibrant volleyball tournament’ here in Upper Subansiri district on Wednesday, bringing together local youths, villagers and Indian Army personnel in a spirited celebration of sportsmanship, cultural harmony, and community participation.
As part of Operation Sadbhavna, the Indian Army repaired and upgraded the volleyball court ahead of the tournament, creating an improved sporting facility for local youths and promoting greater participation in sports at the grassroots level.
The tournament witnessed enthusiastic participation of both men’s and women’s teams, with six men’s teams and four women’s teams competing in a series of exciting matches. Throughout the competition, players displayed exceptional teamwork, determination and sportsmanship, making the event a true celebration of sporting excellence and community spirit.
The tournament generated tremendous enthusiasm among the local population, with large numbers of residents gathering to support their teams. The atmosphere remained vibrant throughout the event, marked by energetic cheering and wholehearted community participation. “Even during the final matches, when rain interrupted play, the determination of the players and the enthusiasm of the spectators remained undiminished, reflecting the resilience, unity, and indomitable spirit of the people of Taksing,” the Army stated in a release.
Adding colour and cultural vibrancy to the occasion, Indian Army personnel and local artists presented captivating performances based on the theme ‘West Meets East’. The cultural programme showcased the rich traditions and heritage of the region while promoting cultural exchange, mutual understanding and stronger bonds between the Indian Army and the local community.
The tournament culminated with a prize distribution ceremony, during which the winning teams and outstanding performers were felicitated for their achievements.
“Beyond the competition, the event served as a meaningful platform for fostering unity, social cohesion, cultural preservation and constructive engagement among the youths and the local populace,” the release said.
