PASIGHAT, 15 May: A joint team of East Siang district police personnel and forest officials, along with the executive magistrate on Thursday destroyed wild cannabis naturally growing in a large area behind the Veterinary Training Institute near Pasighat town.

The drive was a part of their ongoing efforts to curb narcotic and contraband drugs trade in the district.

During the last week of April this year, the anti-drug squad of the East Siang police, with the help of local organisations, had destroyed several hectares of cannabis cultivation in Mebo subdivision.

East Siang SP Pankaj Lamba, who is supervising operations against drug abuse, reiterated that the district police have adopted a “zero-tolerance” policy in this regard. He appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any such illegal practices to the police.
