A team of legislators, led by Minister Kento Jini, visited Hime, Germe, and nearby villages in Lower Siang district to assess the prevailing situation and interact with local residents following a shooting incident stemming from a border conflict with Assam.
Representatives from the Galo Youth Organisation, Lower Siang Students' Union, and Galo Welfare Society also joined the visit amid continuing concerns following the recent Hime-Bodoti incident along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.
The visit by the legislators, though late, reaffirmed their commitment to working with communities, civil society, the administration, and security authorities for a peaceful and lasting resolution of the Hime-Bodoti issue.
The delegation interacted with local communities and heard their concerns and apprehensions. It is therefore their duty to pay attention to these concerns and find a permanent solution so that people do not have to live in fear and anxiety. The state government must take up the matter with the Assam government as well as with the people living along the border. The governments may interfere and intervene, but a solution will only come from the local communities on both sides of the boundary. They need to find a solution that is acceptable to both sides.
