ZIRO, 30 Sep: Lower Subansiri deputy commissioner Oli Perme has called for an absolute zero-tolerance approach to eradicate drug menace from the district.

Chairing the 23rd District-Level Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) Committee meeting at the District Secretariat here on Wednesday, the DC said, "Eradicating the drug menace from Lower Subansiri requires an absolute zero-tolerance approach alongside seamless cross-departmental action."

Stressing the need for proactive community involvement, Perme highlighted that enforcement alone cannot solve the crisis.

"While law enforcement remains vigilant, our educational institutions, community elders, and local leaders must act as the primary defense against youth vulnerability," the DC said and added that the district administration is committed to taking strict legal measures against traffickers while ensuring compassionate rehabilitation pathways for those seeking recovery.

Superintendent of police, Techi Hanyir explained thoroughly the ongoing security operations and exhorted local residents and educators to support police efforts.

"Our enforcement grid is actively monitoring drug supply chains across all entry corridors and local hubs in Ziro," the SP said.

She said that through enhanced coordination with central security forces, the Narcotics Control Bureau, and local police stations, the police personnel are tightening surveillance on persistent offenders.

Key participants in the meeting included representatives from the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), the 60th Bn ITBP, the 138th Bn CRPF, district drug inspectors and department heads across education, health, forestry, and social welfare and local community leaders. (DIPRO)
