BOMDILA, 17 May: The West Kameng police arrested a murder accused within 24 hours of the incident from Chariduar area in Assam on Saturday.
According to the police, an FIR was lodged at the Thrizino police station on 16 May by Relish Basumatary of Khilajuli village in Assam, alleging that Pilish Basumatary (22) attacked Birdao Basumatary with a dao, inflicting fatal injuries during a dinner gathering near a jungle in Khuppi village on the night of 15 May.
The victim died on the spot, the police said.
The police after registering the case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, launched an investigation under SI Dogin Tamin, supervised by West Kameng SP Dr DW Thongon.
The police said that the accused fled the area on a motorcycle after the incident. Based on intelligence inputs, investigators tracked his movement to Chariduar in Assam.
A team led by Bhalukpong Police Station OC Inspector Tsering Dorjee, with support from the Assam Police, carried out raids in suspected locations and finally apprehended the accused from the Chariduar railway station at around 4 pm.
The police also recovered the dao believed to have been used in the crime, and seized the motorcycle used for escaping.
Investigators rushed to the crime scene, conducted the inquest, and collected forensic and other crucial evidence.
