PASIGHAT, 28 Jul: The Darak Tourism and Social Welfare Foundation (DTSWF) and Dhemaji-based Orchid Society of Assam jointly conducted a four-day training and exposure tour, covering wildlife hotspots in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, to sensitise their activists to ecotourism promotion and nature conservation.
The team, led by DTSWF director Jummo Potom, visited reserve areas and wildlife hotspots in Digboi, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, and Kaziranga National Orchid and Biodiversity Park in Assam, Tippi Orchid Research Centre in Bhalukpong, and Sessa Orchid Sanctuary in West Kameng district of Arunachal.
During the visit to the Kaziranga National Orchid and Biodiversity Park, orchid expert Sumitra Gogoi imparted technical knowledge on ‘Orchid propagation and botanical segregation’.
At the Tippi Orchid Research Centre, Dr Jambey Tsering, scientist in-charge at the centre, briefed the team on orchid propagation technique. Dr Tsering also introduced the team to the Nature Interpretation Centre, tissue culture lab, and greenhouses for natural and hybrid orchid species.
During its visit to the Sessa Orchid Sanctuary under the Khellong Forest Division, the team collected information about ground and aerial orchid species found in the area.
