BOMDILA, 5 Jul: Ahead of the sacred observance of Thonkar Düchen, commemorating the 91st birth anniversary of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, the Bomdila Buddhist Society (BBS), together with monks and local residents, organised a plantation drive at the Peace Park here in West Kameng district on Sunday.

The park, located near Thubchog Gatsel Ling monastery, is one of the sinking zones of the town. Taking the lead under the guidance of the 12th Guru Tulku Rinpoche, the BBS has been carrying out plantation and conservation efforts at the site since 2019.

BBS secretary Dr Dechin Droka said that the annual plantation drive, along with social service activities aimed at nurturing both newly planted and existing saplings, would become a regular programme. Maintenance work will be undertaken every six month to ensure healthy growth through weeding, soil enrichment, installation of plant guards, and providing necessary support to the saplings.

Meanwhile, the participation of Pai Dawe, vice president of the western zone of the Indigenous Faith and Cultural Society of Arunachal Pradesh, reflected a spirit of shared responsibility and harmonious coexistence.

Among those present were Tashi Tsering, secretary of the Monpa Mimang Tsokpa’s Bomdila unit, members of the BBS, representatives from Sera and Pedung villages, monks, and members of the general public.
