Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein has reiterated the Arunachal Pradesh government’s commitment to expanding and modernising the state’s power infrastructure. Of the 239 project components under the comprehensive power scheme, 90 have already been successfully commissioned. Among the major milestones are the charging of the 33 kv Khonsa–Khonsa transmission line, the 33 kv Basar–Tirbin transmission line, and the commissioning of the 33 kv Basar substation.

These developments are expected to strengthen electricity transmission and distribution across Arunachal. However, the state still has a long way to go before it can ensure a reliable and uninterrupted power supply for all. Even in urban areas, electricity remains highly unreliable, particularly during the monsoon season, when heavy rains and landslides often damage transmission lines and power infrastructure, leading to frequent outages.

The state also needs to significantly improve its transmission network, as many remote areas remain beyond the reach of the existing grid. For now, solar power has helped bridge some of this gap. Nevertheless, with greater emphasis on expanding generation capacity, improving transmission infrastructure, and extending electricity coverage, the state’s power sector is poised for steady improvement in the years ahead.
