HAPOLI, 12 Oct: Padi Yubbe Outdoor Stadium here in Lower Subansiri district buzzed with unmatched energy on Sunday as athletes, elders, and enthusiastic spectators gathered for the district-level traditional sports competitions under the Seva Sankalp Utsav.
Jointly organised by the Department of Youth Affairs, Government of Arunachal Pradesh and the district administration, the event was attended by Zilla Parishad Chairperson Hibu Dumi and Subdivisional Officer Hage Tarung.
The dignitaries applauded the athletes for keeping ancestral traditions alive, emphasising that preserving the indigenous games are vital for passing down cultural identity, discipline, and unity to the younger generation.
The stadium transformed into a lively arena of friendly rivalry and cultural pride. Athletes went head-to-head in six traditional disciplines that tested strength, agility, and precision: tug of war, gilli danda, archery, dali hakka hinam, bamboo pole climbing, and the fast-paced bamboo (stick) race.
Every event drew applause from community members who turned out in large numbers to back their local teams.
Beyond the medals and competitive spirit, the day served as a reminder of the rich heritage rooted in Lower Subansiri, offering a joyous platform for community bonding and grassroots sportsmanship.(DIPRO)
