ITANAGAR, 11 Jun: Tai Tagak, sponsored by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has been declared elected unopposed to fill the lone seat in the Council of States (Rajya Sabha) from Arunachal Pradesh.

The declaration was made on Thursday by Returning Officer-cum-Secretary of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Tadar Meena, following the closure of the withdrawal period for candidatures at 3 pm.

As only a single candidate filed nomination papers for the lone seat and did not withdraw his candidature before the stipulated deadline, the returning officer issued the declaration in pursuance of the provisions contained under Sub-section (2)/Sub-section (3) of Section 53 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, read with Sub-rule (1) of Rule 11 of the Conduct of Elections Rules, 1961.

The official certificate of election was handed over to the newly elected Member of Parliament at a ceremony held at the Nokmey Namati Hall in the Legislative Assembly secretariat here.

The ceremony was witnessed by Chief Electoral Officer-cum-Observer Pawan Kumar Sain, Joint CEO Liken Koyu, and Assistant Returning Officer Longman Ronrang, alongside a delegation of senior members of the BJP.

Meanwhile, Tagak called on Speaker Tesam Pongte, who congratulated Tagak on his unopposed election to the Rajya Sabha from Arunachal and wished him success in his future responsibilities.(Speaker’s PR Cell)
