NEW DELHI, 16 Sep: A delegation of the Tagin Cultural Society (TCS), led by its president Larji Rigia and secretary Tuter Dulom, met union minister Kiren Rijiju in Delhi and submitted a memorandum highlighting various strategic, security, connectivity and infrastructure issues concerning the frontier areas of Upper Subansiri district.

The memorandum focused particularly on the Taksing-Maja-Asapila sector along the India-China Line of Actual Control (LAC). The TCS urged the authorities to expedite the completion and upgradation of the Daporijo-Taksing road, citing its importance for border connectivity, civilian movement, administration, emergency services and security logistics.

The society also sought a feasibility and security assessment for establishing permanent Border Personnel Meeting (BPM) infrastructure at suitable locations, including Taksing, Maja and Asapila. It further requested a review of the security and logistical posture at Taksing, including consideration of a strengthened permanent military presence based on operational requirements.

Another major demand was the review and possible realignment or extension of the Arunachal Frontier Highway (NH-913) and associated feeder connectivity to cover strategically important areas, including Taksing, Nacho, Siyum and Maja.

The TCS also called for suitable recruitment opportunities for eligible local youth from Upper Subansiri in the Arunachal Scouts and other border security and allied forces, subject to existing recruitment rules and merit-based selection.

The society stated that improved infrastructure, security preparedness, administrative reach, livelihood opportunities and sustained civilian presence are essential for strengthening the resilience and development of communities living in the frontier areas of Upper Subansiri.
