ANINI, 14 Jul: The 8th Naba Tade Tacho Memorial Football Tournament began at the FIFA Stadium here in Dibang Valley district on Tuesday.

In the opening match, Dweeru Trekkers FC beat Arzoo FC 3-0.

Organised jointly by the Naba Tade Tacho Foundation, the District Football Association, and the Kongo Youth Association, the tournament aims to promote football, nurture young talent, and honour the enduring legacy of late Tade Tacho.

A total of 18 teams from across the district are participating in the tournament, the final of which will be held on 2 August.

Tade Tacho (1937-2001), in whose memory the tournament is being been organised, was a visionary leader, eminent social worker, and four-time member of legislative assembly.

He played a pivotal role in the creation of Dibang Valley district, and was instrumental in advancing education, healthcare, infrastructure, and public welfare.

A proud custodian of the rich cultural heritage of the Idu Mishmi community, he is remembered for his humility, integrity, and unwavering commitment to public service.

Now in its eighth edition, the tournament has evolved into a prestigious sporting event in the district, bringing together players, supporters, and communities while promoting the values of teamwork, excellence, and healthy competition.

Through this annual event, the organisers continue to celebrate the life and legacy of late Tacho and inspire the younger generation to pursue sports alongside the ideals of service, dedication, and leadership.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by MLA Mopi Mihu, ZPC Sadhu Mihu and Anelih-Arzoo ZPM Emi Yalla.

The tournament is being organised under the leadership of organising chairman Naso Miri, with support from NHPC, SJVN, the ZPC, and several other prominent members of society. (DIPRO)
