HAYULIANG, 27 Aug: Nine women from different self-help groups (SHGs) participated in a two-day training programme on 'finger millet value-added product preparation', organised at Khupaliang in Anjaw district on 26 and 27 August by the Anjaw KVK.
The programme aimed to create awareness among the participants about the nutritional importance of finger millet and its potential for value addition and income generation through small-scale entrepreneurship.
During the programme, KVK home science specialist Pooja Singnale delivered a lecture on the importance of millets, their health benefits, and various possibilities for value addition. Emphasis was also given to the scope of developing small-scale enterprises based on millet products, which can provide additional income and livelihood opportunities to rural women.
Following the awareness session, the participants were provided with hands-on training on preparation of finger millet cookies and finger millet laddoos. The practical session enabled the women to gain skills in preparing nutritious and marketable millet-based products using locally available resources.
Singnale encouraged the participating SHG members to actively explore value addition of locally available natural resources and utilise their skills for developing small-scale entrepreneurial activities. She emphasised that processing and value addition of locally available crops such as finger millet can contribute to improved nutrition, employment generation, and enhanced household income.
