TAWANG, 28 Sep: Twenty progressive farmers participated in a five-day training programme on 'Vermicomposting and entrepreneurship development', organised by the Tawang Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), which concluded here on Monday.
The programme was aimed at enhancing farmers' knowledge and practical skills in sustainable farming while promoting vermicomposting as a potential livelihood and entrepreneurial activity.
The programme was chaired by agronomist T Jerang, who emphasised the importance of vermicompost in improving soil health and supporting long-term natural and sustainable farming practices. He encouraged the participating farmers to adopt organic inputs and make greater use of locally available resources to reduce dependence on chemical inputs.
KVK Head Dr Anjanand Tripathy highlighted the scope and importance of vermicomposting in present-day agriculture. He explained that, besides providing quality organic manure for agricultural and horticultural crops, vermicomposting can also be developed into a viable small-scale enterprise, creating additional livelihood opportunities for farmers.
The five-day programme focused on developing practical skills among the farmers and encouraging them to translate the knowledge gained during the training into productive and income-generating activities at the farm and household levels. (DIPRO)
