TAWANG, 23 May: The Tawang police arrested two individuals and seized 68 vials containing suspected heroin, weighing approximately 81.6 grams, worth about Rs 3.4 lakhs, from Madrelling and Nehru Market on Friday.
Based on credible information received from reliable sources, the Anti-Drugs Squad and the Anti-Narcotics Task Force, led by DSP Tasso Kato, under the supervision of SP Tasi Darang, conducted raids in multiple locations across Tawang township area and apprehended Tenzin Phuntso (27) of Mandrelling and Lobsang (27) from Nehru Market.
A case has been registered under relevant sections at the police station here.
This is the largest ever drug bust in the district.
Meanwhile, a joint cannabis destruction exercise was conducted by the Lumla police station personnel, led by Lumla PS OC Ajati Mimi, under the supervision of the SP, in collaboration with the 67th Bn SSB and villagers of Kharteng and Namtsering, in the Namtsering-Kharteng area.
Approximately 2.3 acres of cannabis was destroyed in the exercise.
