TEZU, 22 Aug: Experts deliberated on child rights and other issues concerning children, such as mental health, academic stress, depression coping mechanism, and substance abuse during a workshop on 'Child Rights and Protection Framework', organised by the Indian Council for Child Welfare-Arunachal Pradesh (ICCW-AP), here in Lohit district on Saturday.

Advocate Geyir Potom spoke about child rights and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, while advocate Maya Maga explained the POCSO Act, its legal framework, school protocols, and legal remedies.

Padma Shri awardee S Mundayoor, along with his team demonstrated reading techniques and different styles of reading.

Psychologist Tantu Karap spoke on child mental health, academic stress, depression, and coping mechanism, while Soben Karap dwelt on bodily autonomy, consent, and personal boundaries.

Rise Again Foundation coordinator Leaveso Ama conducted a session on substance abuse among children and how to predict, protect, and prevent them from it.

During the inaugural session, ICCW life patron Jarjum Ete delivered the keynote address.

The programme was attended by District and Sessions Judge Gote Mega, Deputy Commissioner Kesang Ngurup Damo, SP Thutan Jamba, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Secretary Rido Pina, and WCD Deputy Director Solel Longling, among others.

The workshop was organised in collaboration with the DLSA, the district administration and the All Mishmi Women Welfare Society. (DIPRO)
