ITANAGAR, 28 Aug: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU) on Friday demanded strict implementation of the newly introduced uniform eligibility criteria in all future government recruitments in Arunachal, and called for a 'one man, one job' policy to ensure wider employment opportunities for unemployed youths.
Addressing a news conference at the press club here, AAPSU president Meje Taku said the union has submitted representations to the recruitment commissions, and recently met the chairman and secretary of the Arunachal Pradesh Staff Selection Board (APSSB), besides officials of the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC), urging them to ensure compliance with the new norms.
Under the state Cabinet's decision, the mandatory eligibility requirements for government recruitment include possession of a permanent resident certificate (PRC), Arunachal Pradesh Scheduled Tribe status, and proficiency in at least one indigenous tribal language of the state.
Taku said strict implementation of the criteria is necessary to ensure that government employment opportunities reach eligible local candidates, particularly unemployed youths who spend years preparing for competitive examinations and are waiting for vacancies.
"We can't give you a job, but we can give you an opportunity," he said, stressing that the union's objective is to ensure fair access to government employment.
The AAPSU also urged government departments to furnish updated details of vacant posts to the recruiting agencies at the earliest, so that advertisements could be issued and the recruitment process initiated without unnecessary delay.
The students' body also reiterated its demand for a 'one man, one job' policy, with Taku alleging that the union has received complaints of individuals, including those from influential backgrounds, holding positions in more than one government department.
He urged such individuals to voluntarily relinquish additional positions, and warned that the union would initiate legal action, including lodging FIRs, if such allegations are substantiated.
Taku said the AAPSU would continue to keep a close watch on government recruitment and oppose any future recruitment process that does not comply with the newly prescribed eligibility norms.
