ITANAGAR, 7 Jul: A delegation of the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU), led by its IPR secretary, met Urban Affairs Minister Balo Raja at his secretariat office here on Tuesday and urged the government to implement the Arunachal Pradesh Tenancy Act, 2022, at the earliest.

 Briefing the delegation, Raja said that the Act has been framed in line with the Model Tenancy Act approved by the union Cabinet in June 2021. He stated that the objective is to support the broader goal of ensuring housing for all through a structured framework that protects the interests of all stakeholders.

Raja further informed the delegation that the state Cabinet in its meeting held on 14 May approved the proposal to frame the Arunachal Pradesh Tenancy Rules, 2026. The rules have since been finalised and sent for gazette notification. He also outlined the steps being taken to establish rent authorities, rent courts and rent tribunals across the state to facilitate fair and timely resolution of disputes in accordance with the Act and rules.

The minister assured the delegation that implementation would be expedited and endorsed the representation to the urban affairs commissioner for completion of the required formalities by 15 July.

The town planning director, who also participated in the discussion, briefed the delegation on the process being initiated to create a dedicated portal for the registration of tenancy agreements. Until the portal is operational, the registration process will be carried out manually.

The AAPSU delegation also raised concerns regarding solid waste management in Daporijo township, stating that waste is reportedly being disposed of directly into the Subansiri river. The delegation urged the minister to take appropriate measures for scientific waste treatment and improved waste management.

Raja, who also serves as the guardian minister for Upper Subansiri district, requested the delegation to help create public awareness and discourage indiscriminate waste disposal.
