PASIGHAT, 18 May: In a significant step towards preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of the Adi community, the Adi Ba:né Ané Kébang (Apex) launched Banné Nog-ying, a beautifully crafted bead recreation of the traditional silver ornament No:g, during a ceremony held at IGJ Government Higher Secondary School auditorium here in East Siang district recently.

The ornament was unveiled by MLA Tapi Darang, in the presence of CDPYK Pasighat president Dr Tajom Tasung, Zilla Parishad Chairperson Ruth Tabing Boko, and Adi Bane Kebang (ABK) president Canon Tatak.

Banné Nog-ying is a unique cultural innovation aimed at making the traditional heritage ornament more accessible, affordable, and wearable in contemporary times while retaining its cultural essence and aesthetic beauty.

The concept and design of Banné Nog-ying were developed by

Opung Jamoh Dai, general secretary of ABAK (Apex) with inputs from other ABAK members. The name of the ornament was coined by Dambuk HGB Maktel Pertin. The initiative received strong support from the ABAK under the leadership of its president Yamek Mize Taggu, and was formally approved by the ABK and the Opin Buang Council on 2 May.

Speaking on the occasion, Tapi Darang lauded the initiative as a “remarkable effort to preserve identity and pass on cultural values to future generations.”

Dr Tajom Tasung and Ruth Tabing Boko also emphasised the importance of safeguarding indigenous traditions amid rapid modernisation.

The programme also featured a short video presentation, showcasing the significance and making of Banné Nog-ying. (DIPRO)
