PASIGHAT, 26 Aug: The Giidang Angong Society (GAS) unveiled its ethno museum in Pasighat, dedicated to preserving and showcasing the traditional practices, cultural heritage of the Adi community.

East Siang deputy commissioner Sonalika Jiwani applauded GAS for establishing the community-driven museum and said the initiative fulfilled a vision she had discussed with various HoDs, when she was first posted in the district.

The DC said the museum has the potential to become an important tourist attraction and assured that the district administration would extend necessary support for its future development. As an immediate step, she announced that the administration would undertake the flooring work of the museum.

DFO Boken Pao also lauded the initiative and suggested that the society ensure the information displayed inside the museum remains clearly readable from a distance of around two metres. He encouraged the GAS to introduce revenue-generating activities to make the museum more sustainable.

Pao assured support for planting more trees in the surrounding area and suggested identifying their botanical and Adi names, which could then be printed and provided to the museum for display. He further suggested developing accommodation facilities for visiting guests.

GAS spokesperson Tobom Dai said the museum has been established with the objective of representing and preserving the traditional methods, practices and cultural identity of the Adi tribe.

District art and culture officer Monnong Tayeng and district tourism officer Lina Perme, members of the Giidang Angong Society, among others, attended the programme.
