PASIGHAT, 3 Aug: The Adi Bane Kebang (ABK) on Sunday discussed the land allotment issue for the proposed Pasighat Medical College in East Siang district.
During the meeting, the participants discussed the feasibility and road connectivity at the proposed sites for setting up the medical college – Mebo and Ruksin. They also discussed prospects of future expansion of the area to be allotted for the institution.
The meeting gathered opinions from different sections of the local people, including community organisations’ leaders, on the establishment of the medical colleges. However, the meeting could not reach a consensus on the location for the proposed medical college.
In May this year, the ABK had submitted a memorandum to the chief minister, demanding the establishment of an ‘AIIMs-like Medical College & Institute’ in Pasighat.
Subsequently, the chief minister’s office had directed the state’s health commissioner to examine the matter and submit a comprehensive proposal on the ‘establishment of AIIMS-like Medical College & Institution’, as demanded by the people of East Siang.
ABK president Tanon Tatak said a team of experts is expected to visit the proposed medical college site in East Siang to study feasibility.
The ABK is planning to convene another meeting, involving the MLAs of East Siang district, the DC, the DLRSO, and district health department officials on the issue after 15 August.
In August last year, RD & Panchayati Raj Minister Ojing Tasing had held a consultative meeting with the elected leaders and senior citizens in Pasighat and discussed the medical college issue.
