ITANAGAR, 14 Sep: The All Nyishi Students' Union (ANSU) has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Education Department, expressing serious displeasure and strong objection over the "continued silence and inaction" on its representation seeking urgent intervention and allocation of funds for 56 identified schools in Nyishi-inhabited districts.
The ANSU stated that more than 14 days have elapsed since the submission of the representation, yet the department has neither acknowledged the representation nor conveyed any action taken or proposed.
The union said such prolonged silence on an issue concerning basic educational infrastructure and the future of thousands of students cannot be justified or allowed to continue.
The union further pointed out that the Education Department appears to be receiving inadequate ministerial attention owing to the minister's multiple portfolio responsibilities, particularly Rural Works Department, Tourism, and Parliamentary Affairs.
Education, the ANSU asserted, is a core public responsibility and cannot be treated as a secondary priority.
"If the existing arrangement is preventing timely attention to pressing educational grievances, the government must seriously consider dedicated and full-time ministerial leadership for the Education Department," the union said.
The ANSU made it clear that "this is not another routine reminder."
It demanded initiation of necessary steps for allocation of funds for the 56 identified schools, and furnishing a clear written communication detailing the action taken and the proposed timeline for further action.
It added that, in the event of failure to respond and initiation of appropriate action within the stipulated period, the ANSU would resort to democratic and lawful measures and hold the authorities concerned accountable for their continued inaction.
