ITANAGAR, 15 Sep: The All Puroik Welfare Society (APWS) has served a seven-day ultimatum to All Nyishi Students' Union (ANSU) president Ashok Doka, demanding a public apology for alleged derogatory remarks he made against the Puroik community.
Addressing mediapersons at the Arunachal Press Club here on Tuesday, APWS adviser Adang Yachu referred to a viral audio-video clip circulating on social media. The clip, he said, is from a personal dispute between Ashok Doka and Taje Yangfo, in which Doka allegedly used objectionable remarks against the Puroik community.
Yachu clarified that Puroik is the official name of the community. After official recognition, the community is known as Puroik, a distinct Scheduled Tribe of Arunachal Pradesh, he said.
He said the Puroik community has no connection with the personal dispute between Yangfo and Doka. Dragging the community into a private quarrel, he added, has caused hurt and humiliation among Puroik members.
The society has therefore issued a seven-day ultimatum, demanding that Doka tender an unconditional public apology to the entire Puroik community. If he fails to do so, the society will take legal action, Yachu said.
An FIR has already been lodged against Doka at the Papu Hill police station, and the society has demanded strict action as per the law.
