Arunachal Pradesh has emerged as the leading state in Northeast India in producing Mount Everest summiteers, whose remarkable achievements have brought immense pride and recognition to the state and the nation.
Scaling Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak, represents the highest level of excellence in mountaineering and adventure sports.
Despite these outstanding accomplishments, many Everest summiteers from Arunachal are yet to receive adequate recognition and institutional support from the state government. In contrast, several other states have honoured their mountaineers through government employment, state awards, financial incentives, and other forms of recognition.
In this regard, a sincere appeal is made to Chief Minister Pema Khandu and the state government to introduce a comprehensive policy for the promotion of mountaineering and adventure sports.
The key demands include:
- Inclusion of mountaineering and adventure sports under the state sports quota for government recruitment and other benefits.
- Formulation of a special mountaineering policy for Arunachal Pradesh.
- Government employment for eligible Mount Everest summiteers and internationally recognised mountaineers.
- State awards, financial incentives, scholarships, and welfare measures for adventure sports achievers.
- Greater investment in mountaineering training, infrastructure, and adventure tourism to encourage the youths of Arunachal.
Recognising these achievers will not only honour those who have represented Arunachal on the world’s highest peak but will also motivate future generations to excel in adventure sports and contribute to the growth of tourism, sports, and the state’s international reputation.
The Government of Arunachal Pradesh is earnestly requested to take positive steps towards supporting and recognising the state’s Mount Everest heroes and adventure sports athletes for their exceptional contribution to the pride and identity of Arunachal.
