ITANAGAR, 21 Aug: Independence Golden Jubilee Government Higher Secondary School (IGJGHSS), Pasighat, representing Arunachal Pradesh, entered the quarterfinals of the girls' U-17 category in the 65th Subroto Cup International Football Tournament 2026 from Pool A.

Arunachal reached the last eight with two wins and a draw.

IGJGHSS played out a 2-2 draw with Uttar Pradesh in their final group match on Friday, with Mary Taga and Gena Jamoh scoring a goal each.

In their opening match on 18 August, Arunachal had defeated Sainik School 3-0. Kayom Modi scored a brace, while Gena Jamoh netted one.

In the second match too, they beat Goa by the same 3-0 margin with goals from Gena Jamoh (2) and Yami Mize (1).

Arunachal is likely to face Assam in the quarterfinal on 23 August.

The prestigious football tournament kicked off at BR Ambedkar Stadium in New Delhi on 18 August, in the presence of Subroto Mukerji Sports Education Society vice chairman S Shivakumar.
