GOGAMUKH, 11 Aug: Assam-based students' organisation Takam Mising Porin Kebang (TMPK) has announced a road and economic blockade against Arunachal Pradesh over Monday's violent incident that left at least 12 persons injured.

Vehemently condemning the incident, the TMPK demanded immediate identification, arrest and prosecution of all those responsible for the violence, especially those who opened fire, in accordance with the law.

"Any Arunachal Pradesh Police personnel found involved must face appropriate legal and departmental action," it said.

The TMPK said the blockades will begin from 5 am on 12 August and will continue until its demands are met.

Clarifying its stand, the students' body said: "This is a democratic and peaceful movement for justice, security and accountability and is not directed against any particular community or the ordinary people of Arunachal Pradesh."

AITF appeals for restraint, opposes blockade

Meanwhile, the Arunachal Indigenous Tribes Forum (AITF) has appealed to the residents on both sides of the Assam-Arunachal border to exercise utmost restraint and maintain peace and communal harmony following the firing incident. The forum urged the people not to spread unverified information or take the law into their own hands.

Reacting to the road and economic blockade announced by the TMPK, the AITF termed it "uncalled for," saying innocent people would be the ones to suffer, particularly those requiring medical attention and those engaged in time-bound official and private work.

The forum welcomed the coordination between the DGPs of Assam and Arunachal, and called for dialogue and restraint to prevent further escalation.
