RUKSIN, 19 Aug: Tense situation is prevailing in Assam-Arunachal boundary areas following continued protests by students' unions and social organizations of Assam demanding the early arrest of those involved in the 10 Aug gunfire incident in Lower Siang that left scores injured.
Assam-based organizations, including Dhemaji Zilla Oiikya Mancha, the district units of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Parishad, Gorkha Students' Union are continuing their protests over the incident.
Members of Dhemaji Zilla Oiikya Mancha along with several other protesters staged a sit-in demonstration in front of the Dhemaji DC's office on Wednesday, demanding early solution to the Assam-Arunachal boundary row and justice for the firing victims.
The protesters shouted slogans against BJP-led state governments of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, alleging that both states have failed to deliver justice to innocent victims.
On Tuesday, women from the Dhemaji area, along with members of various organizations, took out road marches through Dhemaji town, shouting slogans against the authorities' alleged failure to arrest the culprits involved in the violent incident.
On other hand, the Dhemaji district unit of the Gorkha Students' Union blocked the Silapathar-Likabali road, demanding arrest of the gunmen involved in the firing incident.
The protesters' anger stemmed from the fact that Assam Ministers Ranuj Pegu and Atul Bora had assured the early arrest of the culprits, but the government machinery has miserably failed to nab the offenders even after nine days after the incident.
