PASIGHAT, 19 Sep: The Siang Valley Youth Association (SVYA) has urged the state's Education Department to "review and dispose of the genuine representations of teachers affected by the recent transfer orders before directing their immediate release."
The association expressed concern over the proposed release of transferred teachers, particularly those whose cases fall under grounds that had earlier been specifically recognised by the Education Department for exemption from rationalisation/transfer.
The SVYA referred to the notice issued by the Directorate of Secondary Education, dated 21 May,2026, which, among other matters, clarified that teachers who had not completed the prescribed three-year minimum tenure, teachers officially engaged in census duty, those assigned BLO duty, teachers already transferred under intra-district transfer, and teachers on the verge of retirement, among other eligible categories, were to be considered for exemption from rationalisation/transfer, subject to the prescribed conditions and supporting documents.
The association further expressed concern over the situation in East Siang district, stating that the district is already facing challenges relating to teacher availability in certain schools. It pointed out that students from neighbouring districts are increasingly seeking admission in East Siang for better educational opportunities, which may further increase enrolment and consequently intensify the requirement for adequate teaching manpower.
The association stated that, if its concerns and the genuine grievances of eligible teachers are not addressed through due administrative consideration, it may be compelled to pursue "democratic and peaceful means of protest to draw attention to the issue."
Meanwhile, the Students Movement For Better Education in Adi Belt (SMBEAB) has expressed serious concern over the reported move to release transferred teachers without first giving due consideration to the representations submitted by those seeking exemption from transfer on legitimate grounds.
In a press release, the SMBEAB clarified that it does not oppose the release of teachers who are duly eligible for transfer under the applicable provisions. However, the association has raised concern regarding teachers who may fall within categories requiring consideration for exemption, particularly those who have not completed the mandatory three-year minimum tenure, as well as teachers engaged in census duty, BLO duty, and other officially assigned responsibilities.
