DARKA, 4 Jul: The West Siang district NCORD Committee organised a comprehensive awareness programme on child protection and drug abuse, under the theme ‘Together We Can: Safeguarding Our Children from Drugs & Abuse’, at the Government Secondary School here on Saturday.

The programme was conducted in active collaboration with multiple stakeholders, including the district police, Department of Education, ICDS, Department of Health, Mother Vision, Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society, and Fellowship Arunachal Recovery Community.

The programme aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and its devastating consequences on individuals, families, and society. It also sought to educate children, parents, and teachers on ‘good touch, bad touch’ and the provisions of the POCSO Act, and to create awareness on the NDPS Act 1985, Motor Vehicles Act 1988, and other relevant laws.

Students, teachers, and school management committee members took part in the programme, and all the participants took the ‘Together We Can: Safeguarding Our Children from Drugs & Abuse’ pledge during the programme.

Meanwhile, the District NCORD Committee decided to conduct awareness programmes every Saturday across various schools in West Siang district, reinforcing its commitment to a drug-free and safe environment for the children and youths of the region.

“Every month we@NCORD West Siang will cover at least two schools in the district,” it said.
