KOLORIANG, 6 Jul: The 125th birth anniversary of Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee was observed with great reverence at Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya (VKV) here in Kurung Kumey district on Monday.
The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by an address by the VKV principal, who highlighted the significance of commemorating the life and ideals of one of India’s distinguished educationists, parliamentarians, and nationalist leaders.
District Art and Culture Officer Taba Yalar in his keynote address outlined Dr Mukherjee’s remarkable contributions as an educationist, statesman, and champion of national unity. He urged the students to draw inspiration from Dr Mukherjee’s ideals of patriotism, integrity, selfless service, and unwavering commitment to the nation.
Teachers and students paid homage to the great leader by reflecting on his life and legacy. The programme concluded with the rendition of Vande Mataram, followed by the offering of floral tributes by the students.
The commemorative event was jointly organised by the Art and Culture Department, in collaboration with the district information and public relations office.
The day was observed also at the Government Secondary School in Taliha in Upper Subansiri district, under the theme ‘One Nation, One Constitution’.
The programme was organised by the Upper Subansiri district art & culture office, and witnessed active participation of students and teachers.
Students presented a detailed presentation on the life, contributions and legacy of Dr Mukherjee, followed by colourful patriotic cultural performances. Various competitions, including essay writing, painting and recitation of the Preamble to the Constitution of India, were organised to encourage awareness of constitutional values and national unity among students. Winners of the competitions were felicitated with prizes.
A pledge on national unity and constitutional values was administered to all the participants.
Addressing the gathering, Taliha Circle Officer Deewan Mara urged the students to draw inspiration from the ideals and vision of Dr Mukherjee, and to uphold the values of patriotism, national integration and constitutional responsibility. He emphasised the importance of discipline, education and active citizenship in nation-building.
District Art and Culture Officer Ama Nungnu appreciated the enthusiastic participation of the students and teachers, and encouraged young learners to imbibe the principles of unity, integrity and respect for the Constitution. (DIPROs)
