BOLENG, 7 Aug: A preliminary coordination meeting in connection with the upcoming Asian Rafting Championships 2026, scheduled to be held in Siang district from 5-9 October this year, was convened at the circuit house here on Friday. The meeting was chaired by Deputy CommissionerTayi Taggu.
The meeting was attended by the visiting delegation comprising Shaukat Sikand, president, Asian Rafting Council; Gumnya Karbak, Director of Sports, Government of Arunachal Pradesh; Nino Dai, president, Arunachal Pradesh Whitewater Sports Association (APWSA); Nyumli Yigam, vice president, APWSA; and Atu Kartek, general secretary, APWSA.
Representatives of the DSWS Youth Wing, the local organising body, also participated in the deliberations along with officers of the district administration.
Welcoming the delegation, the deputy commissioner expressed the district administration's commitment to extending all necessary support for the successful conduct of the prestigious international event. He emphasised that the championship presents a unique opportunity to showcase Siang's immense adventure tourism potential and the warm hospitality of its people on an international platform.
The visiting delegation briefed the participants on the objectives of their preliminary visit and provided an overview of the Asian Rafting Championships, including the technical requirements, international standards and overall event framework.
Detailed discussions were held on the proposed competition venues, site inspection plans, infrastructure requirements, logistics, accommodation, transportation, safety and emergency preparedness, participant management, media and publicity, tourism promotion, and the roles and responsibilities of the various stakeholders.
The DSWS Youth Wing presented its plans for local coordination and community participation, highlighting the support that would be extended through volunteers and local organisations to ensure the smooth conduct of the championships.
The meeting concluded with the identification of key action points and timelines for coordinated preparations. It was resolved that all stakeholders would work in close coordination to ensure that the Asian Rafting Championships 2026 is organised successfully in accordance with international standards while promoting Siang district as a premier destination for adventure tourism.
