PASIGHAT, 7 Aug: The East Siang district administration has launched an eviction drive to free government land in Pasighat urban town from unauthorised occupation.
On Thursday, the district administration, the Land Revenue Department and the police conducted a joint eviction drive at Pasighat main market and evicted several structures constructed on government land.
Officials said the eviction drive will continue until all government lands in the township are freed from encroachment.
The eviction drive was carried out following a meeting held by the East Siang DC with the Bogong Banggo Kebang, Bogong Banggo Yameng Kebang, Bogong Banggo Land Action Committee and All Bogong Students' Union on Wednesday. During the meeting, government land encroachment in Pasighat town and other land-related issues were discussed.
East Siang DC Sonalika Jiwani had assured that the district administration would take action against encroachment on government land under the provisions of the Arunachal Pradesh Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Act, 2003.
It was resolved in the meeting that land allotment proposals of 2024-25 would be cross-verified as they are returned from the state's Directorate of Land Management office in Itanagar.
During the meeting, East Siang SP Pankaj Lamba had appealed to all sections to maintain peace and cooperate with the district administration's action against land encroachers and offenders.
