MANCHAL, 19 Sep: The Anjaw Krishi Vigyan Kendra (Anjaw) conducted a practical demonstration on oyster mushroom cultivation here on Saturday with the objective of promoting year-round mushroom production and creating additional livelihood opportunities for rural households.
The demonstration was conducted by agriculture economics expert Dr S Peter Singh, along with the staff of the KVK, in the presence of the Manchal ZPM and four members of a local SHG.
The programme focused on providing hands-on knowledge and practical skills on scientific production of oyster mushrooms using locally available resources.
During the demonstration, the KVK team explained the important aspects of oyster mushroom production, including selection and preparation of substrate, moisture management, spawning, bag preparation, incubation, fruiting, and harvesting.
The participants were also sensitised to the potential of mushroom cultivation as a supplementary income-generating activity requiring relatively limited space and investment.
Dr Singh emphasised that oyster mushroom cultivation can provide an opportunity for year-round production and livelihood diversification, particularly for SHG members and rural households.
He highlighted the scope for utilising locally available agricultural residues as mushroom-growing substrates, thereby converting farm waste into a productive resource.
