PASIGHAT, 15 Jul: Denong Tamuk, former chief councillor of Pasighat Municipal Council (PMC), passed away here on Wednesday after a prolonged illness.

He is survived by two wives, five sons and as many daughters.

Born in 1958 at Gune village in East Siang district, Tamuk completed his primary and secondary education in Pasighat in East Siang district and Tezu in Lohit district.

He was elected as PMC councillor in 2013 and was subsequently selected as chief of the urban body.

Prior to joining politics, Tamuk served as an adviser to Bogong Banggo Kebang, Pasighat.

Eminent citizens of Siang belt, including elected leaders and officials, have expressed grief over the demise of Tamuk and offered prayer for the departed soul.

Incumbent PMC Chief Councilor Tagom Padung, in a condolence message said, late Tamuk’s invaluable contributions to the PMC and the people of Pasighat will always be remembered with deep respect and gratitude.

Former Pasighat East MLA and state BJP president Kaling Moyong expressed sadness over Tamuk’s demise.

“Tamuk worked tirelessly for the development of Pasighat and his contributions to the Smart City initiative will remain a lasting part of his legacy,” Moyong said.

Former minister and APCC president Bosiram Siram also deeply mourned Tamuk’s death.

“He (Tamuk) devoted his life to selfless public service. As the first chief councillor of PMC, he laid a strong foundation for urban governance and contributed immensely to the growth and development of Pasighat,” Siram said.

He said Tamuk’s vision, dedication, and exemplary leadership will continue to inspire generations to come.

Pasighat West MLA Ninong Ering also condoled the death of Tamuk and conveyed condolence to the bereaved family.
