DAPORIJO, 30 Jul: Gogiam Gumja Tamin, a traditional priest and prominent leader of the Tagin community of Upper Subansiri district, passed away on Thursday after a prolonged illness.

Tamin (58) is survived by his two wives, five sons, and three daughters.

He was born to late Pugo Gumja Tamin and late Jamnu Gumja Tamin in Dignium village in Giba circle, and later settled in Legirijo village in Sigin-I block.

 Tamin was a distinguished traditional priest, a respected community figure, and an ardent advocate of unity and welfare in his community.

He devoted his life to preserving and promoting the rich spiritual traditions, customary laws, and cultural heritage of the Tagin community. He earned immense respect as a renowned nyibu (priest), an eloquent community orator, and a compassionate social worker.

Throughout his lifetime, he rendered exemplary public service in various capacities, including as GB of Yekar (Legirijo). He also played a leading role in preserving the spiritual traditions of the community by serving as chief priest during the central Si-Donyi Hilo celebrations in Daporijo in 2013 and 2016.

The Tamin Welfare Society (TWS) expressedprofound grief over his demise and offered prayers for the departed soul.

In a condolence message, TWS president Taanu Tamin said that his visionary leadership, selfless service, and invaluable guidance would continue to inspire generations to come.

The society conveyed condolence to the bereaved family, and prayed for strength to the family to bear the irreparable loss.

Tamin’s funeral will be performed on 1 August at his residence in Legirijo village.
