ITANAGAR, 15 Sep: Governor KT Parnaik on Tuesday congratulated mountaineer January Tali on her remarkable achievement of becoming the first Indian woman to successfully summit both Mt Kun (7,077 metres) and Mt Nun (7,135 metres).

He also congratulated Kampo Matey and Nyarian Matey from Tirap district for participating in the Mount Shinkun West Expedition and successfully summiting the 6,127-metre peak in Himachal Pradesh.

Describing the achievements as a moment of immense pride for Arunachal Pradesh and the nation, the governor said that January, Kampo and Nyarian have demonstrated exceptional courage, endurance, technical skill and unwavering determination.

"It is a milestone for Indian mountaineering and a shining example of the indomitable spirit of Arunachal Pradesh' youth. Their achievements reinforce the growing presence of Arunachali mountaineers on the national and international adventure sports arena," he said.

As he served in these areas during his service tenure, the governor said that Mt Kun and Mt Nun, located in the rugged Zanskar region of Ladakh, are renowned for their steep snow and ice slopes, treacherous glaciers, extreme weather conditions and thin mountain air, demanding the highest levels of physical fitness, mental resilience and mountaineering expertise.

The governor wished them continued success in their future expeditions, and expressed hope that they would continue to scale greater heights, bringing further laurels to Arunachal and the nation. (Lok Bhavan)
