KHONSA, 30 May: A ‘mega health mela-cum-free eye screening camp’ was organised by the Health Department under the aegis of the Tirap District Health Society here on Saturday as part of the second day of the golden jubilee celebration of the Arunachal Pradesh State Transport Services (APSTS)
A team of doctors, led by District Medical Officer Dr B Ratan, conducted the health mela with the objective of providing comprehensive healthcare services to the public across the district.
During the health mela, a total of 48 individuals were screened for tuberculosis, while 45 individuals underwent handheld chest X-ray.
Tirap DPO-cum-DSO Dr K Socia, along with his team conducted screening for non-communicable diseases and distributed free medicines to beneficiaries. Out of 163 individuals screened, 40 were found to be hypertensive, and 17 were diagnosed with diabetes mellitus.
Providing AYUSH health services, Dr F Aran and Dr Runcha Thinra offered consultations and health check-ups to 26 individuals. General health check-ups were also conducted by Dr S Sumpa for members of the public.
The District AIDS Control Programme (DACP) team carried out HIV and VDRL testing on 146 individuals, with all test results returning negative.
A total of 310 individuals underwent eye examination. The screening identified 210 cases of refractive errors, 35 cases of cataract, 25 cases of allergic conjunctivitis, 12 cases of blepharitis, and seven cases of pterygium.
Additionally, 170 beneficiaries were provided with spectacles free of cost, based on their examination results.
During the event, DTO (DTC)-cum-DACO Dr Jayanty Thingnok highlighted the activities undertaken under the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan 100-day campaign.
MLA Chakat Aboh, Zilla Parishad Chairperson John KK Matey, and Deputy Commissioner Techu Aran attended the programme and commended the efforts of the Health Department in bringing essential healthcare services closer to the people.
A large number of people from across the district were present during the health mela to benefit from a wide range of healthcare services under one roof. (DIPRO)
