ITANAGAR, 15 Oct: Chief Minister Pema Khandu said human resources are the true measurement of development, and that the responsibility of building them lies with the teachers.

"Human resources, not infrastructure, are the real yardstick of development, and the task of building them rests with the state's teachers, who shape its manpower and the future citizens of the state and the country," the chief minister said while distributing appointment orders along with places of posting to 21 candidates who cleared the assistant professor examination 2026 conducted by the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC), at a function here on Thursday.

Khandu asked them to shoulder that responsibility as dedicatedly as they had prepared for the examination.

The recruitment will fill vacant teaching posts in government colleges across the state under the Department of Education.

The chief minister said his aim since assuming office has been to give every government job aspirant a level playing field based purely on merit, adding that that the occasion reflected his government's commitment to fair, transparent and merit-based recruitment.

The APPSC advertised the posts on 22 January, 2026, held viva voce for the 21 posts on 18 and 19 August, and declared the results on 19 August. Of the 263 applications received across five subjects, 66 candidates were called for interview and 21 were selected, roughly one in every 12 or 13 applicants.

Mathematics and chemistry accounted for six appointees each, followed by physics with five and anthropology and sociology two each.

Sociology drew the largest field, with 86 applications for its two posts, followed by chemistry with 50, physics with 48, mathematics 47 and anthropology with 32.

Education minister's adviser Mutchu Mithi, Chief Secretary Manish Kumar Gupta, the secretaries of education and general administration, parents and relatives attended the programme. [CM's PR Cell]
