ITANAGAR, 28 May: The 24-hour ICR bandh sponsored by the Arunachal Pradesh Indigenous Youth Organisation (APIYO) evoked a mixed response.

While shops and government offices remained completely shut, there were vehicle movements on the road. Security presence was seen on the ground.

The APIYO had enforced the bandh, alleging that the government did not fulfil its demand for the demolition of an alleged illegal mosque in Itanagar.

Earlier, talking to the media, DIGP Tumme Amo said that the bandh culture is not good for the state. “Calling bandh every week is problematic. When the government is willing to talk to organisations and act on their demand, what was the need for this bandh call? This is unfortunate and it is harming the image of the state. Bandh call is not a solution,” said Amo.

Further, he termed the decision to enforce the bandh on Eid-Ul-Adha unfortunate. “In a secular state, calling bandh to stop religious festival celebration is really unfortunate,” he added.

As per police sources, no arrests were made related to the bandh and there was no report of any violence from any part of the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).
