ITANAGAR, 17 Sep: Indian Youth Congress (IYC) national general secretary Tarh Johny has requested Arunachal Pradesh' resident commissioner in New Delhi to "review and rationalise the existing room tariffs at Arunachal House, Arunachal Bhavan and Arunachal Sadan by making a comparative assessment with other state government guest houses in New Delhi."

In a representation to the resident commissioner, Johny said that the room charges presently being levied at Arunachal House, Arunachal Bhavan and Arunachal Sadan in New Delhi are considerably high in comparison to the accommodation charges at similar state government guest houses and bhavans of other states in the national capital.

"These establishments are primarily meant to provide affordable and accessible accommodation to the people of Arunachal Pradesh, particularly state officials, elected representatives, students, patients and their attendants, and other visitors who come to Delhi for medical treatment, education, business, official work, emergencies, and other essential short-term stays," Johny said.

He urged the resident commissioner to accommodate VIPs, senior state officials and official delegations, wherever feasible, at Arunachal Sadan, "so that Arunachal House and Arunachal Bhavan can be reserved for the general public and those requiring accommodation for emergency, medical, educational and other essential purposes."

Johny also called for introducing a "differential and transparent tariff structure" with reasonable concessions for genuine medical and emergency cases, subject to verification.

He further advocated conducting periodic review of the tariffs to ensure that accommodation remains affordable while meeting operational and maintenance costs, adding that necessary measures be taken to simplify booking process and ensure transparency.

"Arunachal Pradesh has a large number of its people who travel to New Delhi for specialised medical treatment, higher education, examinations, employment-related matters and official work. For many families, particularly those from remote and rural areas, the high cost of accommodation in Delhi places an additional financial burden on them," he said.

"Our state bhavans should continue to serve as a support system for the people of Arunachal and remain accessible, affordable and people-friendly," Johny added.
