JOLLANG, 27 Aug: The NSS Cell of Don Bosco College (DBC) here, in collaboration with MY Bharat, Arunachal Pradesh organised a live telecast of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech on Khelo India to mark the National Sports Day at the college's auditorium on Thursday.
The event was attended by Rajya Sabha member Tai Tagak, Nari-Koyi MLA Tojir Kadu, U-15 national badminton champion Gumsh Licha, and a host of dignitaries.
The prime minister in his address spoke on the power of youth, the achievements of sportspersons of the country, and the way forward for them.
DBC Principal Fr Jose George highlighted the importance of the day, while Tagak in his address spoke on the importance of youths and sports. He spoke on the assistance provided by the government to sportspersons with a target of winning more medals in the coming Olympics.
He also gave the examples of the sportspersons from the state selected for the Asian Games, 2026. He highlighted Prime Minister Modi's vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, and exhorted the students to focus on important issues that would lead to a prosperous country, and not be distracted by anti-development issues.
He also encouraged the students to be disciplined, active and accountable for their actions.
Later, a panel discussion was conducted by moderator L Boje, with the invited sportsperson Licha.
Licha spoke about his inspiration and experience as a player. In the Yuva Samvaad open interaction round, the students asked numerous questions, which were answered by Licha.
NSS PO Samsom Mossang administered the Nasha Mukt Bharat pledge to the participants.
MY Bharat director Dr Salam D Singh also spoke.
In Lower Dibang Valley district, the Khelo India Dialogue was organised on Thursday in headquarters Roing, as part of the National Sports Day.
The programme featured the virtual address of the prime minister, followed by the Khelo India Dialogue with local sportspersons, youth icons, public representatives and participating youths.
The programme witnessed active participation of youths from JTGMD College and Government Polytechnic College, Roing. NSS volunteers were mobilised and coordinated by the MY Bharat district youth officer, the district administration and NSS programme officers.
The youth icons present during the programme were Kesaya Elapra (U-17 national badminton player), Prisha Kachari (U-17 national badminton player), Abida Begum (district and state Viksit Bharat youth parliament Winner; represented Arunachal Pradesh at the national parliament), and Agano Linggi (Khelo India football coach).
DSO Roy Mihu, MY Bharat District Youth Officer Prashik Purushottam Rodge, NSS programme officers of JTGMD College, Imbo Pulu and Okiling Lego coordinated the programme.
The Khelo India Dialogue provided an interactive platform for youths to engage with sportspersons and youth icons, encouraging them to take up sports, develop a healthy lifestyle and contribute towards the vision of a Viksit Bharat.
