ITANAGAR, 31 May: New Delhi-based Legal Defence for Human Rights (LDHR) has welcomed the rescue and repatriation of a 15-year-old minor child from Lower Siang district, following intervention by the authorities concerned.
The child has now been reunited with his family and has been produced before the competent child protection authorities for necessary care, counselling and support, the LDHR stated in a release.
It expressed appreciation for the Lower Siang district administration, the Child Welfare Committee, law enforcement authorities, and all officials involved in ensuring the safety and welfare of the child.
“Their prompt and humanitarian response demonstrates the importance of timely action whenever information concerning the wellbeing of a child is brought to the attention of authorities,” it said.
The case originated from a complaint submitted before the competent authorities regarding the condition of a minor child who, according to the complaint, had been living away from his family under circumstances that raised serious concerns relating to child protection, exploitation, and possible bonded labour.
Acting upon the information received, the authorities initiated the necessary process, resulting in the rescue and restoration of the child to his family on 25 May.
“For the child and his family, the rescue marks the end of a painful chapter and the beginning of a new journey. For a parent, especially one living in poverty and with limited access to legal remedies, prolonged separation from a child can be an unbearable emotional burden. The uncertainty, fear and helplessness experienced by families in such situations often remain unseen by society.
“This case underscores the reality that behind every rescue operation lies a human story – a story of vulnerability, hope, and the fundamental desire of every child to live safely with dignity, freedom and family care,” the release added.
