DEOMALI, 22 Sep: A leopard cat (Prionailurus bengalensis) cub, which was rescued on 20 September from along the Deomali-Namsang road, was transported on Tuesday and safely handed over to the mini zoo in Miao, under the Namdapha National Park and Tiger Reserve in Changlang district, for proper care, rehabilitation and further monitoring.

On 20 September, the leopard cat cub, weighing 250 grams, was found stranded along the Deomali-Namsang road by one Temin Lama of Deomali. He promptly handed the cub over to Deomali Range Forest Officer D Lowang for care and protection.

Deomali Divisional Forest Officer B Taba appreciated Lama for his timely and responsible action towards wildlife conservation. He also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and immediately inform the nearest Forest Department office or forest officials upon encountering stranded, injured or distressed wildlife, while avoiding any attempt to handle or disturb the animal.

Earlier, in March this year, the Forest Division had rescued a bear cub from Borduria and successfully shifted it to the Centre for Bear Rehabilitation and Conservation (CBRC) at the Pakke Tiger Reserve for specialised care and rehabilitation. (DIPRO)
