BASAR, 3 Aug: The ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Arunachal Pradesh Centre here in Leparada district, in collaboration with the West Siang Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), organised a district-level stakeholder coordination meeting on El Niño preparedness and climate resilient agriculture under the NICRA Project on Monday.
The programme was inaugurated by ICAR AP Centre Head (i/c) Dr Doni Jini, who emphasised on coordinated implementation of the district agriculture contingency plan for West Siang and the need for convergence among the ICAR, KVK, line departments and farmers to enhance climate resilience.
KVK Head Dr Manoj Kumar highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts for effective dissemination of climate-resilient agricultural technologies.
The technical session by soil science expert Dr Ampee Tasung highlighted the prevailing ENSO conditions, district-specific vulnerabilities, and contingency measures recommended for Leparada district, including rainwater harvesting, soil moisture conservation, mulching, crop diversification, integrated farming systems and climate-resilient livestock management.
The presentation also discussed the recent episodes of heavy rainfall, cloudbursts, flash floods and landslides in Arunachal during the 2026 monsoon, underscoring the need for district-specific preparedness and technology validation.
The stakeholders unanimously endorsed the district agriculture contingency plan for West Siang, and resolved to support its large-scale dissemination, frontline demonstrations and systematic validation in Leparada district.
They acknowledged that several climate-resilient technologies recommended in the contingency plan have already been validated or are under validation through ongoing research at the ICAR AP Centrehere, and agreed to promote their adoption under farmers’ field conditions through KVKs and the Agriculture and Allied Departments.
All participating departments assured of their full cooperation in creating awareness among farmers, disseminating climate-resilient technologies, and strengthening preparedness against the anticipated impacts of El Niño.
